Elf -2003

Elf is a great comedy staring Will Ferrell playing the role of Buddy the Elf. Buddy was abandoned on the steps of the North Pole where he was raised by Elves and Santa. When Buddy begins to realize that he is different from everyone else he starts asking questions and realizes that he was adopted. Santa tells him his real father lives in New York City and that is where Buddy’s adventure begins. Buddy quickly falls in love with the big city and with his father. The movie follows Buddy as he interacts with people from New York and what people think when he tells him he is a real elf from the North Pole.It follows Buddy as he attacks a fake Santa, has snowball fights in the park, eats pasta with syrup  and ends up falling in love with a fellow elf impersonator.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas -2000

How the Grinch stole Christmas comes from the classic Dr. Seuss book, The Grinch. The movie takes place in a snowflake, where a magical world called Whoville exists. Whoville is full of Who’s obsessed with Christmas and spreading Christmas joy everywhere. One nasty green creature known as the Grinch hates Christmas and left Whoville after being made fun of as a child. The Grinch’s goal is to steal Christmas from Whoville by taking everyone’s presents while they are sleeping and stealing every inch of holiday decorations he can find. This is his plan until one day he meets a young girl Cindy Lou Who, who instead of shunning the Grinch, befriends him. Finally, the Grinch finds that he does have a heart and does indeed love Christmas just as much as the rest of Whoville.

The Santa Clause -1994

The Santa Clause is a family comedy following Scott Calvin, a freshly divorced man with a 6 year old son Charlie. After Scott discovers that his ex-wife and new husband tell Charlie Santa is not real he becomes angry. The night of Christmas Eve, Scott hears a strange noise coming from the roof and goes outside to check it out. He sees what appears to be someone in a Santa suit who startled, falls off the roof on top of Scott. The impersonator disappears and leaves Scott with 8 reindeer, instructions and a business card. Scott puts the suit on thus becoming Santa Clause. The movie follows Scott as the transformation quickly begins with quick wait gains, a white beard and Santa like features. Charlie is obviously amazed at whats happening with his father while the rest of the world and his family thinks hes just plain nuts.

Home Alone 1990

 

Home Alone is personally one of my favorite movies to watch during the holidays. It follows the story of 8 year old Kevin McCallister and his family who is planning to spend Christmas away in Paris. The night before they leave, Kevin gets in an argument with his older brother Buzz and is sent to sleep in the 3rd room. The next morning the family accidently sleeps in through their alarms and in the big rush to make it to the airport in time, forget about Kevin. When Kevin wakes up he finds that his family has left and he has the whole house to himself for a week. Eating all the junk food he wants, jumping on all the beds and watching all the R-rated movies he can he’s in heaven. Until, two idiotic burglars try robbing his house and breaking in. The movie follows Kevin as he sets booby traps all throughout the house and outwits the two burglars.

A Christmas Story -1983

A Christmas Story is a classic Christmas comedy set in the 1940’s. The plot follows a young boy Ralphie, his younger brother, sweet mother and strict father during the holidays. When Ralphie is flipping through a magazine he stops at a picture of a Red Ryder BB Gun and instantly falls in love. He asks his parents who strictly state, “You’ll shoot your eye out!” His teacher even shuns the idea saying the exact same thing. The story follows Ralphie’s journey to convince his parents and even Santa Clause to give him the gift. It is definitely one of the funniest Christmas films with many classic scenes and memorable parts. The leg lamp being one of the most popular as well as the family’s dinner at the Chinese restaurant after their turkey goes on fire. This is definitely a movie  you’ll see playing alot on television. TBS even plays the movie on repeat for 24 hours on Christmas day.
